Tree Preservation Orders

A Tree Preservation Order makes it a criminal offence to cut down, uproot, prune, damage or destroy the tree or trees without the appropriate permissions. It protects certain trees in the interest of public amenity.

A Tree Preservation Order can apply to a single tree, a group of trees, a woodland or an area of trees.

The trees can be of any size, species or age.

The map above gives the areas where TPOs are located in Sandleheath. For a fully interactive map with details of particular trees, please visit: https://maps.newforest.gov.uk/publicmap/map.aspx?mapname=tpo

If you wish to carry out works to any tree protected by a Tree Preservation Order, you must submit a planning application.

There are no fees for Tree Preservation Order applications or notifications to carry out works to protected trees.
